It’s not all happy…….but it is.

Well this isn’t your regular photo blog post.

It won’t be loaded with lots of awesome cool photos from different locations, filled with fabulous people.

This blog post is more about the reality of life, and how it plays it’s role with my wedding photography.

It’s a mixed bag of feelings this wedding photography. It’s always great when I get new couples choosing me to shoot their wedding day, and essentially build a new friendship with them. It’s even more awesome when the couples are a referral.

Sonya was a bridesmaid at one of my weddings I shot last year, and when Matt proposed to her (which was one of the most unexpected moments in Sonya’s life) she messaged me within a matter of days to let me know they want me to come with them on their Dominican adventure:). So it does make me  sad that I would not be going with Sonya and Matt to their destination wedding in January 2011.

However, it isn’t all sad. The reason why I won’t be sharing their awesome wedding week with them is because the week we’re supposed to be in Punta Cana my wife and I are expecting our first born.

It always breaks my heart when I’m unable to shoot someone’s wedding, whether it’s locally in the Toronto area, or a destination wedding like Sonya and Matt’s.

With all things considered, it’s all for the right reasons.

While this blog post may not have a ton of images, it does have one. A single image that changes everything. A single image that can evoke all emotions known to man.

A single image that for us means, our lives will never be the same.

:)

that’s what i’ve been told bud, lol. However, i generally don’t sleep much to begin with, so i’m hoping that it won’t be that big of a deal. I usually operate 20 hours on 5 hours of sleep. But we’ll see :)

Dan, this is aweosme news, congrats! My little guy, Connor just turned 1 on the 25th, it’s been an awesome adventure. Get some sleep, believe me, you’ll need it, it’s much worse than what people say. :-)

thanks so much for the beautiful words Sonya, and Kristie. It’s definitely a new chapter of our lives, all we can do is embrace it. I think if it’s a boy the toys i’ll be buying will be more for me to play with than the baby. You know all guys secretly want to play with hot wheels, and tonka trucks lol :)

It is absolutely for the right reason! You are awesome and like I said to you yesterday you were our first choice and that was definitely for a reason! Our wedding week you won’t be our photographer but you’ll be filling another set of shoes… Dad… one of the most amazing and blessed roles of all times… Matt and I & you and your wife are all going to be experiencing such amazing life events that week, you won’t be with us but you will be in our thoughts all the same!

Dan! This blog post makes me want to cry! Your message is so sweet. Matt and I are so happy for both of you.

Wedding :: Marta & Chris :: A friend gets married

I generally try to keep my picture posts under 30 per wedding. (it makes the site load faster)

BUT this one couldn’t be contained. I already scrapped as many shots as possible to ensure the blog doesn’t load like an old dial-up connection website:)

People have asked me time and time again. “Isn’t it weird, or hard to shoot a friends wedding?” And my answer is always a resounding “NO”. Granted I met Marta for the first time when they decided to look for wedding photographers. Chris and myself met while working night shifts at a computer company that shall remain nameless:)(inside joke) Since then we’ve become great friends, and I’m not just saying that. We even spent a week together in the Dominican when their friends and best man/maid of honor Kristie and Matt got married this past May in Punta Cana. The fact that we were all together for a week and they didn’t end up drowning me, just goes to show that they’re true friends:)

So come their wedding day and what happens? Nothing….Everyone by that time has known me for some time, and it is a great bunch of people that I’m more than happy to call friends. It’s easy to relax when you have inside jokes, and frequently quote favorite TV shows with the guys (mainly Family Guy and Simpsons)

Marta and Chris said that they would like me to stick around after i’m finished shooting and join in on the fun. I obliged:)There are even some pictures of me break dancing floating around Facebook:)

An awesome day, with an equally awesome couple.

Congrats you guys:)))

Hope you like them

Dan.

Who says closets are not a good spot for dress pictures???

Chris - August 20, 2010 - 9:23 pm

Well I’ll say it once and I’ll say it again… No matter how many times I see your work I continued to get blown away! (Even though in this case I have a biased opinion :D )

You’ve outdone yourself once again and we couldn’t be happier with the end results! Thank you so much for helping us make this day what it was, and of course for the break dancing :D

Marta and Chris have been great friends of mine for almost 10 years now! To see them get married was just amazing but to see how you captured it all I can’t put into words. You are truly talented Dan but with such gorgeous subjects how could you really take a bad picture. Looking forward to next year when you photograph one of my other best friends wedding! Maybe you can break out some more moves!

Marta - August 20, 2010 - 1:13 pm

These are amazing!! You have no idea how much I love them! We will treasure the moments that you captured forever. Thank you for this, thank you for your advice and friendship, all the help that you gave us along the way and for not getting too annoyed with me when I had my little Marta moments. We love you and are so proud to be one of your couples! I would have changed my date a million times (not just twice) for these beautiful pictures! Love M.

Engagement :: Sanja and Nik :: Burlington

It’s truly an honor when someone recommends me to their friends or loved ones.

It’s even a greater honor when a photographer does so. Sanja and Nik came to me as a referral from my good friend Milena at MKG Photography

Sanja and Nik are a couple who are just madly into each other. You can really see from the photos how  comfortable they are with each other, no matter when they are, and no matter who’s around.

It was a shoot fueled by fun, jokes, and a little bit of wine;)

Here is what I’ve created for them.

Feel free to comment, and look for their wedding later on this year:)

Ciao

Dan.
